Certification Program for the Jasmin Jahal Method of Oriental Dance

Overview:
The Level 1 Technique Certification Program provides students with a strong foundation in oriental and folkloric Middle Eastern dance, with an emphasis on proper body alignment, isolations and the basic movements that will be built upon in subsequent levels of the program. Students are also introduced to veil work and the proper use of basic finger cymbals, as well as the historical and cultural context of the dance form.
Workshop:
The Level 1 Technique workshop consists of 3 to 4 hours of class time plus 2 to 3 hours of testing, depending on number of participants. The workshop itself will involve a review and clarification of all the techniques covered in level 1 and will offer students the opportunity to ask questions and refine their technique. Students will be given 3 dance combinations ahead of time. The combinations will be reviewed and polished during the workshop and then must be performed as part of the testing process.
Home Study:
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources available in the home study packets so they will get the most out of the certification workshop and are well-prepared for the certification test. The amount of study time needed will depend on a particular dancer’s past experience with the program content. The Level 1 curriculum is typically taught in 12 weeks at the Jasmin Jahal School of Dance, with students attending class a minimum of once a week for total of 12 hours of class time. Therefore, participants in the certification program may want to dedicate at lest 12 hours of study in preparation for the workshop and testing.
The home study materials provided for Level 1 Technique include:
• Level 1 Technique Certification Booklet
• Dance notes for the dance combinations
• DVD Reach for the Stars Belly Dance Basics
• Audio CD for cymbal practice
Other materials you will need in order to prepare include Finger Cymbals and Veil (preferably silk).
Fees:
All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. The application fee per workshop is $10. The following fees apply only to workshops held in Chicago, at the Jasmin Jahal School of Dance:
• $155 for workshop and testing, and includes Study Booklet and Cymbal CD
• Optional DVDs are at a reduced price and no sales tax is charged if you add them to your registration. These DVDs include $15 for Reach for the Stars Belly Dance Basics and/or $15 for Reach for the Stars Veil Variations
Optional items you may wish to purchase include Finger Cymbals and a silk Veil
